About Us
The
Castle School of Dancing in Torquay is one of the oldest
dancing establishments in the area with a rich and colourful
history. Its home is in a Victorian Villa on Castle
Road, built in an elevated position with stunning views
across the town centre.
The school was first opened by
Miss G Gooding and Mr J Ridge in the early 1930's. Further
information about the history of the school can be found by visiting our
history page.
The school is situated in the centre of Torquay and is within easy reach of
all major transport routes. It also has the benefit of a large
public car park positioned next door to the studio for the
use of students.
The
Castle School of Dancing offers classes for all levels and
all ages ranging from the very young to dancers still keen
in their 90's! The school also offers instruction in
many different varieties of dance style from the standard
ballroom and Latin American ranges to a variety of modern
sequence dances. More details of the dances taught can
be found by following the link to the
dances
page.
The school tries to make dancing fun and available to
everyone, from the absolute beginner to the more advanced
and
professional dancer. The school building has two large
ballrooms fitted with Maple floors that are used for both
practice lessons and regularly held social dances. In
addition, there are a number of
smaller rooms that add flexibility to the school.
Coffee, Tea and soft drinks are available and the school
also benefits from a licensed bar which is for the use of
Club Members only. The school dance dates for 2007 are
shown in the panel to the right.
Many
of the teachers at the Castle School of Dancing offer
private dance lessons for those who prefer one-to-one
tuition, either as a taster session or for longer periods.
They can all be contacted at the school from the
contacts page.
All of the teachers are fully qualified with several years
experience in dance. Some of our students have been
dancing for years with the school and there is no doubt that
once bitten by the dancing bug you will find it very
difficult to resist!
In the Summer of 2008 Carly Watts, a fresh new teacher with
West End experience started teaching children's classes at
the school. Carly offers Ballet, Modern, Tap, Jazz,
Song and Performance and Hip-Hop. Visit Carly's page
by clicking here.
Why not come along or contact the school and see what we can
offer you?
You
will certainly get a warm welcome!
